On this 11-day tour you will gain insight into the cultural legacy and poignant past of Jewish communities in Vienna, Budapest and Prague. Visit sites of significance in Jewish history that offer the traveler an opportunity to learn, remember and reflect.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1
PRAGUE   P/D

Arrive in Prague and meet your tour escort for transfer to your hotel. Enjoy free time before dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2
PRAGUE         B

Start with a morning tour of the Jewish Quarter, once the largest Jewish ghetto in Europe from the 14th century to 1781. Visit various mediaeval synagogues that now make up the Jewish Museum, beginning at the Altneushul, then the Pinkas Synagogue and the Klausen Synagogue, with a final stop at the Spanish synagogue.  Enjoy free time for lunch on your own before transferring to the Prague Castle area for a sweeping view of the historic city center. Afterwards we make our way to the Old Town Square with its mediaeval City Hall.

Day 3
PRAGUE      B

Begin the day with a tour to Terezin, the name of a former military fortress in the Usti nad Labem Region. Visit the recently discovered remnants of a secret synagogue of the Danish Jews found in a small ground floor storage room in Terezin during the Holocaust (subject to confirmation).  Return to the hotel in Prague. Remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 4
PRAGUE/VIENNA     B

Check out of the hotel and depart by coach for your journey to Vienna. En route there will be a two hour stop at the Jewish Town of Trebic, located in the Moravian part of the Czech Republic. After our visit we leave Trebic and head across the border to Austria, arriving in Vienna. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at the leisure.

Day 5
VIENNA    (SHABBAT)    B/D

The day begins with a stop at the House of Sigmund Freud in the Alsergrund District. Continue along the famous Ringstrasse which encircles the inner city and showcases the grandeur of two centuries past. Some time to explore artist Gustav Klimt`s collection, beginning at the Belvedere Palace. Return to the hotel in time for Shabbat service, followed by Shabbat dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 6
VIENNA (SHABBAT )    B/D

Attend Shabbat services at the famous Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter. Enjoy an optional Shabbat lunch.  Enjoy some free time to explore Vienna on your own before we depart for a half day sightseeing tour of Vienna later in the afternoon.  In the evening we enjoy dinner and a Mozart Strauss concert at the Schoenbrunn Palace Orangery.

Day 7
VIENNA/BUDAPEST    B

The day will focus on the Jewish history of Vienna. Begin sightseeing at the Jewish Community Center and the Judenplatz. Afterward, we leave Vienna and cross the border into Hungary arriving in Budapest. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 8
BUDAPEST     B

Begin with a panoramic tour (no interior visits) of Budapest. This afternoon we proceed to Buda’s Fisherman’s Bastion. Next is the Royal Palace on Castle Hill. A few somber moments will be spent at the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park. In the late afternoon we will take a walk on the boardwalk of the Danube River to visit a unique food market.  In the evening we head to the pier for a relaxing Danube River cruise highlighting the city at night.

Day 9
BUDAPEST     B

Leaving the hotel we make our way to the Jewish Quarter for a morning half day in-depth focus on the Holocaust in Budapest, life in the Ghetto and the rescue operation of the Hungarian Jewry. See the Dohany Street Synagogue, the largest active synagogue in Europe, the Jewish Museum and the Holocaust Memorial Center. The balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 10
BUDAPEST   B, D

Begin with a half day tour to Szentendre. Visit the world famous Ceramic Museum of Jewish Sculptor, Margit Kovatch, located on Vastagh Gyorgy Utca. Continue to the former Renaissance capital of Visegrad, a small castle town located north of Budapest on the right bank of the Danube. In the evening we gather for a farewell dinner.

Day 11
BUDAPEST AIRPORT   B

Transfer to the airport for the departure  flight home.
